MDWFA 2008 October Season Poll

Home - News & Updates

The MDWFA is constantly monitoring the waterfowl hunting here in Maryland. On many occasions Waterfowlers have discussed and expressed opinions to our staff at events that the one-week early October duck season is longer than it needs to be. The MDWFA is seeking Regional opinions of our membership on the length and the timing of the October season. The common idea presented to our staff is to open the October season on a Saturday and end on Wednesday. Then add additional 3 days as follows: 2 days in November (second split) and one day in December (third split) depending on the calendar.

It is important to understand how some of these changes would effect the season. Reducing the early season would in effect create a net loss of a Saturday. The three days added on in November and December must be added on the front of the second or front of the third split and would result in a lost Saturday although the number of hunting days would remain the same.

Poll question # 1:

I would rather have a shorter October season.

I like the October week long season (now Saturday to Saturday) in October as it is.

Poll question # 2: Please respond by placing a number next to your preference from 1-3 with 1 being the first choice and 3 being your last

I would rather leave the October season move back to the third week. I understand the third week will overlap the early muzzleloader season for deer.

I would rather leave the October season the second week of October

I would rather move October season the last week in October.
